Silent Sitting Group
Sitting in the silence is a time-honored practice found in many traditions and teachings and is increasingly rare in our noisy and frenetic culture. Intentional silent sitting is indeed a personal oasis and has many gifts to offer. A sense of inner peace, of calm in the storm, of added insight and wisdom can come from regular silent sitting time. A healthier physiology is also a benefit now noted by medical science.
Called by meditation, inner listening, contemplative prayer, zazen, mindfulness, silent worship and other names, the door to silent sitting can be opened in many ways and the OASIS group welcomes all traditions and levels of experience.
This gathering will favor no tradition, and have no leader, no instruction, and no stated mission except to gather together in intentional silence. It has been shown that the richness of a singular silent sitting practice can blossom even further when a group comes forward to sit together.
Please join us for our next monthly meeting on Sunday, April 28, at 7:00 PM. We will sit for 50 minutes followed by a few minutes of quiet visiting as we prepare to shift gears for the drive home.
Contact person is Dana Gaines, who will open and close the silent time with a simple chime. You can reach Dana with questions at dgdanagaines@gmail.com.
A small love offering is requested for the meeting space provided by OASIS Institute.
